Soda cans and jump ropes decorate
the patchy grass on the first warm day
of spring. Two girls run with arms spread
to catch the wind in soap-loaded wands.
Laughter skips down the sidewalk and bounces
back from the neighbor’s house, the metal panel
of a passing truck, the echo chamber
of an open garage. Trailing them in the light breeze,
taut bubbles lifting to a brushed sky—
one the size of a robin, another the milk-white
globe of a streetlamp, and one farther out
in the spring blue, a transparent moon.
