Since there has been so much discussion about the new liturgical translations here at Commonweal, I thought I'd let you all know about a panel discussion at Fordham University (Bronx) next Monday, April 16, 4 PM. The topic was occasioned by the new translation, but it promises to be a lively conversation about the relationship between language and communal prayer in general. A keynote address by Julia Upton, Ph.D., R.S.M. (St. John's) will be followed by a panel comprised of Thomas Scirghi, Ph.D., S.J. (Fordham), Rev. Matthew Ernest, S.T.D. (Archdiocese of NY), and Joel Hoffman, Ph.D., author of My People's Prayer Book and And God Said and acclaimed translator of Hebrew texts for Jewish liturgy. Judith Kubicki, Ph.D., C.S.S.F. (Fordham) will moderate.Rose Hill Campus, Tognino Hall in Duane Library. Reception to follow.More info: [email protected] or 718-817-0662(The event will not be live streamed, but it's possible that there will be some video available afterwards.)
