Now is ever-after

for which the first was made

and I keep myself adrift

through a variety of poses,

a little hair on the chest,

a short word

with an echo that can’t be stopped

and the muscular arm

holding an umbrella

as if I were a good cause in itself.

Jack Lindeman’s newest chapbook is Measuring Dorcas (Finishing Line Press). New poems have recently appeared in Abbey, California Quarterly, The Cape Rock, Chiron Review, Confrontation, and Poetry Now.
